Is it really anonymous?

Yes — we fetch the story through our server, so the account never sees your Instagram profile in their viewers list.

Why does it sometimes ask for cookies?

Instagram only shows Stories to logged-in sessions. If a Story fails to load, the site owner needs to add a logged-in session's cookies on the backend — that's a one-time server setup, not something you need to do.
